Many things were happening this week in the Granite State.  President Obama visited Manchester, Keene is gearing up for it's annual Pumpkin Festival, and the Red Sox hired John Farrell as the new manager.  However, as we all know, for all the good that happens, there are the negative stories that grab most of the spotlight.  This week, there were two unfortunate stories involving the operation of motor vehicles.  The first is that of Manchester Police officer David Connare.  Following an accident on I-93 near exit 6, the veteran of the police department has been charged with reckless conduct and DUI.  He has since resigned through his attorney and is scheduled to be in court Dec. 10.  You can learn more about this story and view videos at

The next case is that of Ian Gamble, a 21 year old Francestown resident who was identified as the driver of a vehicle that made not one, not two, but three passes at a group of turkeys crossing a road in Greenfield in an attempt to run them down.  He succeeded in killing at least one of them and is charged with hunting without a license.  If found guilty the only penalty will be loss of hunting license.  The resident who caught it all on video posted to Facebook and Youtube and this demonstrates the power of social media! Good for him!

Clearly the biggest story of the week in New Hampshire is Lizzi Marriott and the arrest yesterday of Seth Mazzaglia.  This 29 year old was taken into custody this weekend and charged with second degree murder.  I am sure that all of you have been following this story closely, and that we can all sympathize with what her family and friends are going through.  There is relatively little information available at this point but police have suspended the search off of Peirce Island in Portsmouth.  Updates are being posted frequently on many news platforms. So I have finally decided what my blog will be about.  Each week I will discuss some current event in the state of New Hampshire.  This week I have decided to talk about the firing (and subsequent lawsuit) of Fremont Police Chief Neal Janvrin.  He was fired in August amid allegations of "poor decision making" and being "physically incapable" of doing the job.  He has been a police officer for over 43 years and I believe should not have been fired.  As a chief, the duties are overwhelmingly administrative, therefore why should his physical ability have anything to do with his job description?  WMUR.com also states that "Janvrin's lawyer said his client denies making inconsistent decisions and is unaware of any policies he violated. He said Janvrin hasn't previously been disciplined or warned."

This all sounds like a political move in which the town board of selectmen want to install a different chief and simply need to create excuses to get rid of Janvrin.  Someone with that amount of public service doesn't deserve to be railroaded in this kind of fashion and I believe that the town of Fremont will come to regret their decision. 

1st post

This is my initial attempt at blogging!  I have never read blogs and definitely not written any, ever. I hope that over the course of this class I will get more comfortable doing it so that I can see if there are things that I like about it.  For now, I think I will let people make suggestions (which I definitely need!) and go from there...
