Well, thankfully the couple accused of abusing a 3 year old child has been caught and brought back to New Hampshire after being arrested in Florida.  I mentioned this story in my last post http://jrm2012.blogspot.com/2012/11/more-crime-in-granite-state-this-week.html  Jessica Linscott and her boyfriend, 27-year-old Roland Dow, dropped Linscott's 3 year old son off at a hospital with what they claimed were self inflicted wounds.  The boy is still hospitalized at Childrens Hospital of Dartmouth in Lebanon NH. 

In another tragic NH case of child abuse, WMUR.com is reporting that a Hudson mother is facing manslaughter charges after applying a painkiller patch to her 7 month old child, resulting in the infant's death. "

A grand jury determined there was enough evidence to charge Kristine Davis with the death of her son, Izik, 7 months.

Emergency crews were called to Davis' home on Tiger Road on July 19, 2011, when the child was found dead."

More crime in the Granite State this week, and just in time for the holidays!  We are people so heartless that they can ruin what should be a time of joy and comfort for everyone?  Luckily, charges are proceeding against the mother of the man who murdered Greenland's Police Chief as was mentioned in my blog last week.  http://jrm2012.blogspot.com/2012/11/saturday-november-10.html  However, this week in Concord there was an especially pointless crime that demonstrates how thoughtless people are. Here is another story to deaden the holiday spirit....these two are accused of abusing the female suspect's 3 year old son as he was taken into Exeter Hospital with bruises and burns over most of his body.  The couple has since fled and authorities are searching for them in Massachusettes.  You can also go to wmur.com for further info on this story.

I think that one of the biggest stories of the week (other than the election results), is that of the lawsuit against Beverly Mutrie.  She is the mother of Cullen Mutrie, the Greenland NH man how fatally shot Police Chief Michael Maloney and seriously wounded four more.  The lawsuit accuses her of supplying the gun her son used to carry out this horrific crime.  According to a report by WMUR, "The judge has issued a ruling that agrees that the lawsuit against Beverly Mutrie should be dismissed unless the plaintiffs can come up with more proof tying her to the guns Cullen Mutrie used to fire on the officers."

I think that if this woman had anything to do with contributing to this crime, she should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.  I also believe that it is a crime to enable someone else.  Regardless of your relationship to that person, at some level you know that your actions are contributing to their delinquincy.  It is clear that she knew about her son's involvement in drug dealing and using, so what did she think could possibly be a reason to give or loan her son a firearm.  If she did in fact do this, I consider her to be just as guilty as her son.  For other crime stories from our state, you can view my previous blogs at http://jrm2012.blogspot.com/2012_10_21_archive.html

It is that time of year again!  This week will determine the next president of the United States and from all predictions it is going to be one of the closest elections in history.  New Hampshire hosted Mitt Romney in Portsmouth on Saturday, and he will be at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester on Monday.  President Obama is in the Granite State on Sunday as both candidates trying to swing the vote in their favor.  To read more you can go to WMUR.com at http://www.wmur.com/news/politics/WMUR-Granite-State-Poll-Presidential-race-in-a-dead-heat/-/9857748/17258384/-/a402lk/-/index.html

The election for governor of our state is just around the corner as well and the race has shaped up to be just as close as its presidential counterpart.  Democrat Maggie Hassan is clinging to a slight lead over Republican Ovide Lamontagne, but not by much!

Well, I think this week we all know what the story is....get ready for Hurricane Sandy!  It seems crazy that in New Hampshire, we are going to witness an earthquake and hurricane back-to-back.  All I have heard people talking about is what they are doing to prepare and how bad they think the storm will be.  Hopefully it is not, as I have not been too concerned about it.  My house is on the same electrical grid as the airport so I'm not really worried about power.  We have a wood stove in addition to oil and pellet stove, so no problems there.   The high winds could actually help me out too because my lawn is covered in leaves that need to be blown away!

Many things were happening this week in the Granite State.  President Obama visited Manchester, Keene is gearing up for it's annual Pumpkin Festival, and the Red Sox hired John Farrell as the new manager.  However, as we all know, for all the good that happens, there are the negative stories that grab most of the spotlight.  This week, there were two unfortunate stories involving the operation of motor vehicles.  The first is that of Manchester Police officer David Connare.  Following an accident on I-93 near exit 6, the veteran of the police department has been charged with reckless conduct and DUI.  He has since resigned through his attorney and is scheduled to be in court Dec. 10.  You can learn more about this story and view videos at

The next case is that of Ian Gamble, a 21 year old Francestown resident who was identified as the driver of a vehicle that made not one, not two, but three passes at a group of turkeys crossing a road in Greenfield in an attempt to run them down.  He succeeded in killing at least one of them and is charged with hunting without a license.  If found guilty the only penalty will be loss of hunting license.  The resident who caught it all on video posted to Facebook and Youtube and this demonstrates the power of social media! Good for him!

Clearly the biggest story of the week in New Hampshire is Lizzi Marriott and the arrest yesterday of Seth Mazzaglia.  This 29 year old was taken into custody this weekend and charged with second degree murder.  I am sure that all of you have been following this story closely, and that we can all sympathize with what her family and friends are going through.  There is relatively little information available at this point but police have suspended the search off of Peirce Island in Portsmouth.  Updates are being posted frequently on many news platforms. So I have finally decided what my blog will be about.  Each week I will discuss some current event in the state of New Hampshire.  This week I have decided to talk about the firing (and subsequent lawsuit) of Fremont Police Chief Neal Janvrin.  He was fired in August amid allegations of "poor decision making" and being "physically incapable" of doing the job.  He has been a police officer for over 43 years and I believe should not have been fired.  As a chief, the duties are overwhelmingly administrative, therefore why should his physical ability have anything to do with his job description?  WMUR.com also states that "Janvrin's lawyer said his client denies making inconsistent decisions and is unaware of any policies he violated. He said Janvrin hasn't previously been disciplined or warned."

This all sounds like a political move in which the town board of selectmen want to install a different chief and simply need to create excuses to get rid of Janvrin.  Someone with that amount of public service doesn't deserve to be railroaded in this kind of fashion and I believe that the town of Fremont will come to regret their decision.

This is my initial attempt at blogging!  I have never read blogs and definitely not written any, ever. I hope that over the course of this class I will get more comfortable doing it so that I can see if there are things that I like about it.  For now, I think I will let people make suggestions (which I definitely need!) and go from there...
